A Touch of Skin

Southern brides know there’s more to wedding traditions than just something blue; often the conservative nature of their wedding venue, or even their wedding guests, requires a certain amount of thought and consideration when picking out wedding favors, place settings, or even their wedding gowns.

But when it comes to the latest styles to grace the runways and red carpets–skin is the game that continues to win. (Yes Beyonce, we’re looking at you with your gorgeous barely there crochet and mesh numbers).

For making a sexy, dare we say “edgy” choice, for your nuptials, it’s all about the proper styling and conservative add-ons that can turn your bare-all showstopper into something that won’t give Grandma a heart attack.

We stopped by Modern Trousseau, Broughton’s newest wedding boutique, to chat with boutiquemanager Hannah Perry about sticking with sexy, taking the plunge, and how to dare to bare.

Savannah Weddings: When brides want to bare just a little skin, what do you recommend?

Hannah: For the brides who want a classic look but still want to be a little sexy, we have lots of options but one of our favorites is to add a plunging neckline or back but make it illusion, so that her skin is still covered but showing a little more than before.Being that all Modern Trousseau gowns are able to be customized in any way, we love to sit the bride down and hear exactly what she is envisioning, so that we can make her vision come to life in her gown!

Savannah Weddings: Barely there looks, from Beyonce’s Michael Costello gown from the 2014 Grammys or Kim Kardashian’s 2015 Met Gala number, are definitely in. What’s your take on the “barely there” look for brides?

Hannah: We have definitely seen more brides come in wanting to wear sexier looks that show skin. Our new Fall 2017 collection just debuted and our designer Callie Tein made sure to feature several gowns that boast illusion mid drifts, deep plunging backs and high slits. Our separates have also become increasingly popular for those brides who want a fun sexy top with a more classic tulle or silk skirt.

Savannah Weddings: What silhouettes do you recommend for a sexier look?

Hannah: For the brides who are wanting a figure hugging sexy look we recommend our fit-to-flare style. This silhouette is stunning and shows off all the feminine curves. And with our custom measurements we can achieve the exact fit the bride is wanting.

Savannah Weddings: For dresses with sexier details, what do you recommend to tailor them for a more conservative affair?

Hannah: Brides who wear gowns that show more skin can still be conservative! We love to go classic when it comes to veils. You’d be surprised how adding a simple veil to a sexy modern gown really makes the look come together and helps the bride feel like more of a bride.

Savannah Weddings:  Lingerie-inspired gowns are very hot right now, what’s your take?

Hannah: Lingerie inspired gowns are something that our designer Callie Tein had in mind when she launched her new label Muse. These gowns feature luxurious beading, high slits, low backs and tons of illusion! One of our favorites is our Rumor gown which boasts a short sexy Italian beaded lace short gown with a dramatic high-low skirt. The gown are stunning and perfect for those brides who want to look ultra feminine and sexy on their wedding day.

Savannah Weddings: Last but not least, short weddings dresses are starting to live up to their hype when brides are looking for a new modern take to the traditional dress. We’re seeing them absolutely everywhere, from elopements to outdoor ceremonies. What do you recommend to brides thinking of trying something different?

Hannah: We adore short dresses, or as we call them, shorties! We have an entire collection of them and also can make any full length gown short. Something we love to do is pair a shortie with a detachable tulle or silk skirt, so the bride has a super classic look for the ceremony and then surprises everyone at the reception with her fun and flirty short gown.
